Wes Gordon has never shied away from a bold, colourful palette or exuberant prints; but showing in Rio gave him an excuse to go wild.
Carolina Herrera descended upon Rio de Janeiro for a runway show of the Resort 2024 collection, the first destination show for the brand. The Brazilian city seemed a natural fit for the house of Herrera according to Creative Director Wes Gordon, not only for the “incredible Latin heritage of Herrera,” but the overlap between brand and city of “our love of colour, joy, happiness, music, dance, optimism, and sunshine.”
With its strong connection to Latin America and a thriving fragrance business in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro was a fitting choice to debut both the Resort collection and a new Carolina Herrera fragrance. Wes Gordon expressed his fascination with the city and its allure, which served as a perfect backdrop for this extraordinary fashion event.
The Carolina Herrera Resort 2024 collection exudes effortless chicness with timeless appeal, leaving fashion lovers in awe. Creative Director Wes Gordon continues to reinvent iconic Herrera house codes in captivating new ways, playing with different proportions, fabrications, and a rainbow-hued colour palette grounded in signature New York black.
“The Carolina Herrera Resort 2024 was held this evening in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, inspired by the city’s exuberant joy and sensuality. At the heart of this celebration are the people of Brazil, boasting a 100% Brazilian cast, walking to a soundtrack of national icon Gal Costa. Mother Nature and the tropical Brazilian climate proved to be the ultimate muse. As guests arrived to enjoy sunset cocktails and a breathtaking rainbow spanning the expanse of the stage, a rainstorm arrived at the show location for a prolonged and unexpected period. Ultimately, guests were escorted to the adjoining party in a jungle greenhouse built for the occasion, as models were filed in the rain barefoot holding their shoes, evoking an emotional and romantic image of the Girl from Ipanema.” – from Carolina Herrera.
Models flawlessly brought to life the creative vision of Wes Gordon, who masterfully curated a collection that perfectly embodied Carolina Herrera’s timeless signature style. They also elegantly glided down the slightly damp, rose-coloured runway, walking barefoot and holding their shoes with a touch of daring elegance. This precautionary measure showcased their resilience and added an authentic twist to the evening’s affair.
The collection drew inspiration from the joy and vitality of nature, featuring bold floral prints, vibrant colours, and delicate silhouettes crafted with luxurious fabrics such as silk and taffeta. The pieces were expertly tailored to highlight the best aspects of women’s figures while providing comfort and ease of movement. The collection included flowing dresses, jumpsuits, coats, and separates that can effortlessly transition from day to evening wear. The accessories, like wide-brimmed hats and statement earrings, added an extra touch of sophistication.
While Leonie Hanne preferred a bright and sunny mini ruffled piece from the brands’ Spring 2023 collection, Camila went for a uber sexy mini dress from the pre-fall 2022 collection.
The Carolina Herrera Resort 2024 collection also attracted a list of celebrities and stars to attend the label’s front row. The presence of esteemed figures such as Sabrina Carpenter, Leonie Hanne, Camila Morrone, Camila Queiroz, Blanca Padilla, Marina Ruy Barbosa, Sasha Meneghel, Taís Araújo, Giovanna Ewbank, Fernanda Paes Leme, and Grazi Massafera added an extra touch of glamour and excitement to the already electrifying event.
