A “real-to-wear” collection, combining the house’s heritage with contemporary codes.
Japanese designer DJ Nigo debuted as Creative Artistic Director of KENZO and unveiled his first collection for the brand at Paris Fashion Week. He launched a striking collection and an avant-garde perspective on fashion.
The runway show took place at Galerie Vivienne, which was conceived as a “tunnel to the future”. Moreover, the location featured neoclassical architecture, contrasted with eclectic and uneven designs.
The collection itself featured 60 looks, all designs with Takada’s original vision into the present day. For instance, the signature poppy print reemerged on oversized shirts, jackets, and vests, as well as flowing maxi skirts and dresses.
The incredible pieces in the line merged the artistic director’s upbringing and career with the heritage of Takada’s transcending cultural and conventional dress codes.
Moreover, the fashion show included an eclectic soundtrack offering an exclusive preview of Nigo’s upcoming album featuring A$AP Rocky, Kid Cudi, Pharrell Williams, Tyler, the Creator and others.
For the Fall/Winter 2022 collection, DJ Nigo learnt from KENZO’S past background and future. He tried to keep KENZO’s founding ideals with its unconventional approach when creating the collection.
With genderless silhouettes and a mix of tailoring and workwear, the collection features a variety of patterns, styles and colours. It also featured jackets, denim, knitwear and accessories that showed Nigo’s creative ideas.
In simply words, Nigo’s first collection for Kenzo was an incredible start for the new creative director. He honoured house’s traditions and playing into the popular styles of the present and, as a result, he established a strong foundation for himself at this longstanding French house. Moreover, his A-list guest was perfect and, we can’t say that we are not excited to see what comes next at Kenzo.
