Celebrities honoured Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy with gorgeous hair and makeup.
Met Gala 2023, a.k.a. fashion’s biggest night out is finally here. But even though we’re constantly refreshing our feeds to see what our favourite celebs are wearing on the iconic Met steps, it should be noted we’re equally excited to see all the hair and makeup looks. This year’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” is an ode to the late designer known for his work at Chanel, Fendi, Chloé, and his namesake line, Karl Lagerfeld. The dress code, then, is fitting: in honour of Karl.
There’s no denying that glam can make or break a look—but luckily, this year’s attendees seem to have enlisted the best skin care experts and makeup artists to ace the red carpet. Although all the stars definitely made their very best effort to look effortlessly gorgeous at the Met Gala 2023, Minimalist and clean-girl makeup ruled the red carpet, with stars opting for flawless skin and pink cherub cheeks and lips. Some of them opted for more extravagant beauty looks, while others were divided between those who opted for glam make-up, choosing whether to emphasise the lips or the eyes more. Think of Cardi B’s silver-toned bob with flipped ends, tied with a leather hairband, Rita Ora’s sultry smokey eye, texture curls and chic nail design or Rihanna’s powerful red lipstick.
We’ve rounded up our favourite beauty moments. See every eye-catching look from the 2023 Met Gala here.
ASHLEY GRAHAM
Model Ashley Graham served 90s glamour at the Met Gala. Her all-matte look mirrored the pink tones of her satin Harris Reed gown. Ashley wore a flush of pink powder blush on her cheeks and pink lipstick for a natural touch of pink on the lips. Ashley’s gelled wavy curls were created using a custom hairpiece made from tape-in extensions. Creativity at its finest.
JENNIE KIM
The Chanel ambassador and Blackpink member was the image of beauty at her first Met Gala. The star went for a refreshed pop of pink on the cheeks and a fluffy lash. She proved less is more with clean skin, classic black liner, and a muted nude lip. She also kept it simple with her hair, wearing a braided headband and Chanel’s signature white camellia flower behind her ear.
EMMA CHAMBERLAIN
Emma Chamberlain returned for another year as Vogue’s special correspondent in a periwinkle ensemble with a matching plush headband. Her brown hair was parted down the middle, slicked back, and flowing behind her. She paired her pastel outfit with blue smokey eye makeup and nude peach lips.
CARDI B
As usual, the singer wore an incredible fashion and beauty look on the red carpet. For the occasion, she changed her black hair for a chic silver-toned bob with flipped ends, tied with a leather hairband. “Cardi always embodies not only elegance but her unconventional sense of style,” La’Pearl said of the look in a press release.
GIGI HADID
A very blonde Gigi Hadid wore a semi-collected, relaxed hairstyle. In addition, in terms of makeup, the artist wore soft silvery eyeshadow and a single pearl centred under the lower lash line of each eye to denote her look to the fullest and make her radiant and flawless skin.
BILLIE EILISH
The “Bad Guy” singer was a gorgeous gothic queen for the night. Her black hair was parted down the middle and finessed into an intricate braid with satin fabric. It’s impossible to tell where the braid ended because it blended seamlessly into her dress.
