The world’s biggest stars brought the glitz and glamour we were so desperately craving to the 2022 Met Gala.
The ‘Superbowl of fashion’ is finally upon us. Yes, the Met Gala arrived this first Monday in May, and this year’s outfits did not disappoint. In celebration of this year’s theme, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”, attendees once again put their best foot forward, this time with a golden, glamorous dress code. The theme harkened back to the days of yesteryear, namely the “Gilded Age” in the early 1900s, where New York society belles reigned supreme, and America was experiencing a period of economic growth.
What does “Gilded Glamour” mean?
Well, there are many possible interpretations. Gilded Glamour was a period of excess for those who were able to succeed: the wealthy who shamelessly overindulged in all aspects of their lives, especially when it came to clothing. It was a time when “new money” and “old money” collided with excitement and passion for technology and the future.
And as expected, the carpet was quite spectacular and many celebrities adapted to the dress code, such as Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Jessica Chastain, and Billie Eilish, among others.
Check out some of the artists who perfectly portrayed the theme.
ROSALIA
Spanish singer Rosalía showed up in a white rhinestone dress with a train by designer Mathew Williams for Givenchy and sunglasses.
HAILEY BALDWIN
Hailey Bieber was a vision in a white Saint Laurent gown, which trimmed these voluminous white feathers. The look finished with dramatic cluster earrings and a simple swept-back bun.
BLAKE LIVELY AND RYAN REYNOLDS
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who have been married for nearly 10 years, were Met Gala co-chairs. They were not only the best-dressed couple at the event but also seemingly the happiest. Lively wore a crown with a strapless custom Atelier Versace dress, featuring Pink bow-like detailing with pink opera gloves. Reynolds complemented her in a black tuxedo.
EVAN MOCK
Few people epitomized the theme better than Evan Mock, who wore a bespoke Head of State suit aligned with the Met Gala’s Gilded Age theme and head-to-toe Cartier jewellery.
ALEXA CHUNG
Alexa Chung turned to her friend Christian Siriano for her silk gown, which was an elegant nod to the theme of the evening. The cream dress paired with the shoe brand of the moment Mach & Mach was the perfect ode to American glamour.
LIZZO
Lizzo attended the event in this powerful and opulent attire. The Thom Browne ensemble packs quite a punch: it is the very definition of “golden glamour”. From the coat to the choker, everything feels perfectly placed.
CHLOE GRACE MORETZ
Chloe struck a masculine pose at the Met Gala in a suit reminiscent of late 19th and early 20th century men’s tailoring, a very smart approach to the theme. The regency-style jacket had already been worn by the actress when she attended a Louis Vuitton runway show.
